Bio:
Anne Vetto is a software engineer on the Immunology team, building web-based tools and applications for scientists and the general public to explore the human immune system, e.g. by enabling scientists to easily visualize and analyze large datasets in the Human Immune System Explorer (HISE). She has nearly a decade of software development experience ranging from educational technology and marketplace platforms to music, gaming and enterprise software. She earned her B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience from University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where she worked for five years as a research assistant in the Don W. Cleveland Lab studying the roles of mitochondria and neural supporting cells in neurodegenerative disease.
While assisting Drs. Sandrine Da Cruz and Philippe Parone at UCSD, she primarily studied the contribution of mutations in the gene encoding DNA-/RNA-binding protein FUS/TLS to neurodegeneration in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as well as the targets of SOD1-mediated toxicity in ALS pathogenesis. She is especially interested in neuro-immune interaction as it relates to demyelinating neurodegenerative disease.
As a software engineer who has performed her share of benchwork, she enjoys leveraging technology and open science to help accelerate research.
