Exploring the mysteries of bioscience – together

Our teams find meaning, purpose, and excitement in their work – our culture is curious and collaborative as a result.

Multidisciplinary teams and diverse perspectives make our work possible

We blend the best aspects of academia, scientific research, and technology, pushing the limits of human exploration as we work and learn together.

2 years to 20+ – Regardless of how long Allenites stay with us, the knowledge gained here positions our people to grow here or help advance human health elsewhere.

Our Values

  • Excellence: We strive to be exceptional in all we do while never remaining satisfied with yesterday’s accomplishments.
  • Integrity: We do the right thing with honesty, humility and principle.
  • Respect and Inclusion: We are committed to a fair and diverse environment where different perspectives are encouraged.
  • Stewardship: We carefully and responsibly manage our resources for maximum impact.
  • Creativity: We empower people to be creative both in what we do and how we do it; to imagine what could be possible and make it possible, ultimately driving impact inside and outside of the Allen Institute.

Allenites enjoyed a Lion Dance performance organized by internal affinity group members for the Lunar New Year in 2024.

More About Us

The Allen Institute launched in September 2003 with four employees, one small rented lab, and one big project: mapping gene expression across the entire mouse brain.

We are lifelong learners and value bringing thought leaders together to share ideas and collaborate. That’s why we host dozens of internal and public facing symposia, workshops, trainings, speaker seminars as well as travel to conferences all over the world.

Organizations we value and support that our Allenites engage with:

  • ABRCMS
  • BlackInImmuno
  • BlackInNeuro
  • Life Science Washington
  • Neurodata Without Borders
  • oSTEM
  • OUTbio
  • PairUp
  • SACNAS
  • Rainier Valley Food Bank

We are a 2022 “certified gold” Bicycle-Friendly Business (League of American Cyclists).
