Michael Wang, Ph.D.

Associate Director, Data and Technology

Bio:

Michael leads the Informatics Solutions Development sub-organization within the Data and Technology Department at the Allen Institute for Brain Science. Tapping on his over 20 years of experience developing commercial-grade and enterprise-scale software products and services, Michael and his team are responsible for end-to-end informatics solutions and data science behind it to process, curate and publish brain data using advanced algorithms, machine learning and computer vision. Prior to joining the Institute in 2019, Michael served as a Senior Manager in software development at Amazon for three years, leading a multi-disciplinary organization to deliver solutions in big data arena, building models, technologies and services at scale that help optimize Amazon's worldwide inventory management. Previously, Michael served as a senior software development manager at Autodesk for 9 years, leading a software engineering organization to develop software application and platform for building information modeling (BIM) to meet industrial needs in architecture, structural engineering, MEP engineering and construction. Michael holds a PhD in Mathematics from Brandeis University, specializing in Differential Geometry, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from University of Science and Technology of China.


Michael is passionate about applying science, technology, engineering and mathematics to real world problems as well as scientific discoveries.
