Alexandra Basford, Ph.D.

Director, Office of Science and Innovation

Bio:

Alexandra Basford drives and manages key internal and external activities and programs at the Allen Institute as Associate Director of the Office of Science and Innovation. As part of her role, she engages in continuous information gathering with thought leaders, organizational leaders, and early career investigators worldwide to help identify directions that offer first in opportunities in areas of bioscience that could generate transformative or paradigm-shifting outcomes. Prior to joining the Office of Science and Innovation, she spent three years a program officer for The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group and a decade in scientific publishing in the U.S. and Asia, working as a journal editor, a publisher and a biomedical indexer. She possesses a bachelor’s degree in Biophysics from Scripps College and doctorate in Neuroscience from the University of Minnesota; broad familiarity with basic, clinical, and translational research; and bench experience in physiology, molecular biology, and imaging.
