Educators

Participants will learn the basics of Python coding, best practices in coding pedagogy, and how to incorporate Allen Institute’s big data into their courses. No prior coding experience is required. The workshop is intended for undergraduate neuroscience educators who hope to integrate coding into a course during the 26-27 academic year but would benefit from developing more comfort with Python programming.

Workshop Highlights

Participants will:

  • Learn the basics of Python programming
  • Identify and learn to use resources for coding with Python
  • Use Python to analyze open neuroscience data through an already developed lesson plan
  • Explore generative AI tools and identify possible use cases for them along with necessary guardrails
  • Learn best practices in coding pedagogy for their classrooms
  • Discuss how they would integrate coding with Allen Institute data in their class(es)

Participants will attend a 4-day in-person workshop (July 27-30, 2026) at the Allen Institute in Seattle, WA. Travel and accommodations will be covered up to $1250. If your travel and accommodations costs more than our allotted amount, we will review on a case-by-case basis. Food and beverage will be provided during the hours of the workshop, and participants will receive a $250 stipend. More details will be shared with the accepted workshop attendees.

If you have more questions about financial support, especially if it is a deciding factor in whether you will apply, please feel to reach out to education@alleninstitute.org.
