Sujatha joined the Molecular Genetics group at the Allen Institute in 2022, where she leads the transgenic mouse program. Her research focuses on the development of molecular genetic tools for precise, cell type–specific access to neuronal populations in the mouse brain, supporting targeted manipulation of defined cell types and enabling the systematic dissection of neural circuits and the study of complex behaviors.
Prior to joining the Allen Institute, Sujatha was a Senior Scientist at HHMI Janelia Research Campus, where she developed molecular, anatomical, and genetic tools for whole-brain imaging and optogenetics in larval zebrafish to study neural circuit mechanisms underlying behavioral flexibility. She earned a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Bryn Mawr College, where her research focused on the synthesis and transport of synaptic vesicle proteins during synapse formation. She subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Scripps Research Institute.
