Sudarshan Pinglay leads a research lab affiliated with the University of Washington’s Department of Genome Sciences, Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine, and the Seattle Hub for Synthetic Biology. His lab develops technologies to build, rearrange, and redesign mammalian genomes at scale, combining large-scale DNA assembly, genome engineering, single-cell genomics, and computational design. Through this work, the lab seeks to understand how genome sequence and structure encode function and to engineer cells with capabilities not found in nature. Sudarshan received his PhD from New York University School of Medicine where he trained in the labs of Jef Boeke and Liam Holt. He completed undergraduate degrees in molecular biology and philosophy at Johns Hopkins University.
