Bio:
Sharon joined the Allen Institute for Brain Science in 2020 as a member of the Molecular Genetics team. There, she co-manages the scientific operations of the Viral Genetic Tools Pipeline, in which tools are developed and characterized to allow access to specific cell types. In addition, she manages the scientific administrative needs of the Molecular Genetics team, including collaborative research agreements, grants, and IACUC/IBC protocols.
Sharon completed her postdoctoral training with Brian Popko at the University of Chicago as a National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) Fellow, where she investigated therapeutic approaches to protecting oligodendrocytes from inflammation in multiple sclerosis. She concurrently completed a year-long D4Lab Fellowship at the Booth School of Business/Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. She received her Ph.D. in Human and Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston/MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she characterized and explored treatments for a mouse model of the neurodevelopmental disease tuberous sclerosis complex.
