Ritvik Vasan, Ph.D

Scientist II

Bio:

Ritvik Vasan joined the Allen Institute for Cell Science in 2020 as a Scientist II in the Modeling team. He earned his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of California San Diego, where he worked on computational modeling of cell membrane mechanics at the subcellular length scale using Helfrich energy based theoretical approaches. Ritvik previously interned at the Allen Institute for Cell Science in the summer of 2018 and 2019, where he implemented image-based vertex models to predict cell-cell forces in time-lapse videos of tight junction protein-1 locations as well as image feature based conditional Variational Autoencoders to study non-linear dimensionality reduction.

Ritvik is passionate about integrating machine learning approaches with mechanistic biophysical models to build interpretable models of large and complex biological states.
