Michael Kunst, Ph.D.

Scientist, Sr.

Michael Kunst received his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Göttingen, Germany, he has dedicated his career to studying neural circuits across various model organisms, including grasshoppers, Drosophila, and zebrafish. Following his doctoral studies, Michael went on to complete postdoctoral fellowships at both the Yale School of Medicine and the Max-Planck Institute for Neurobiology. Here, he deepened his expertise in understanding the intricate structure and composition of neural circuits.

Research Focus:

At the Allen he is working in the Imaging Department, where he is leading efforts in processing and analyzing spatial transcriptomics data. With a keen interest in understanding the global architecture of the brain, he is actively involved in ongoing work at the Allen Institute, contributing to the characterization of both the adult and developing mouse brain.
