Headshot for Avery Hunker Scientist II Allen Institute for Brain Science

Avery Hunker, Ph.D.

Scientist II

Bio:

Avery joined the Allen Institute as a Scientist I in the Gene Therapy group and Human Cell Types program in 2020. Her research at the Institute is focused on developing a multiplex screening strategy for resolving AAV expression patterns across mouse and primate using single cell RNA sequencing. Avery initially became interested in technique development while earning her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Washington. Her thesis project under the supervision of Dr. Larry Zweifel involved creating and validating a cell type-specific CRISPR/SaCas9 viral tool for use in genetic loss-of-function studies in mice.
