Participants will:

  • Learn the basics of Python
  • Identify and learn to use resources for coding with Python (e.g., Github, StackExchange, etc.)
  • Use Python coding language to analyze open neuroscience data through an already developed lesson plan
  • Evaluate options for coding infrastructure and choose an option that best fits their circumstances and goals
  • Gain the knowledge needed to have a conversation with their Research IT department about setting up the infrastructure
  • Learn best practices in coding pedagogy for their classrooms
  • Discuss how they would integrate coding with Allen Institute data in their class(es)

Participants will attend a 4-day in-person workshop (July 14-17, 2025) at the Allen Institute in Seattle, WA (travel and meals plus a $250 stipend will be provided).

The workshop is intended for undergraduate neuroscience educators who hope to integrate coding into a course during the 25-26 academic year, but need to learn Python coding skills.  If you need support for designing an educational activity or course that integrates our data, Developing Open Neuroscience Teaching Tools Workshop is also offered this summer.
