Special Presentations at BrainFest

Description

Take a peek inside a real human brain (donated for educational uses). Dr. Kate Mulligan from the University of Washington School of Medicine and Dr. Claire Weichselbaum from the Allen Institute will lead us in exploring the fascinating anatomy of the organ between your ears. Through this narrated dissection, we will reveal the brain’s key structures and their functions.

This program features live demonstrations and discussions of medical topics, including human organ dissection. Due to the nature of this presentation, it is recommended for ages 10+.

Description

In this interactive presentation, audience volunteers will tackle a mystery sorting challenge with new clues revealed each round. Watch as new insights are unlocked over time, just like scientists make new discoveries about brain cells as advancing technology reveals new “clues” about their structure and function. Presented by Lauren Alfiler and Dr. Rachel Hostetler of the Allen Institute. Recommended for all ages.

Description

What is your brain made of? How do its cells use chemical and electrical signals to create all your thoughts, feelings, and behavior? Explore these questions and more with interactive demonstrations led by Dr. Eric Chudler, Research Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Washington. Recommended for all ages.

Description

Join us in celebrating BrainFest with music inspired by some of the amazing things our brains can do!  Show duration: 27 minutes.

Description

For a fun depiction of emotions in the brain, enjoy the 2015 animated film “Inside Out” in IMAX. Rated PG. Before the film, Dr. Kaitlyn Casimo of the Allen Institute Education & Engagement Program will provide a short introduction to the real science that inspired the story. Purchase tickets here; film is not included in general museum admission.
