Monica Liu, Ph.D.

Scientist I - Shanahan Foundation Fellow

Bio:

Monica Liu has a BS in Biology and a BA in Computer Science. She earned her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied with Drs. Douglas Weber and Aaron Batista. Her Ph.D. thesis focused on population analysis of neural mechanisms of sensorimotor integration by investigating how contact mechanics influences texture coding in the dorsal root ganglia and examining the role of proprioceptive feedback on brain-computer interface control in motor cortex.

Research Focus:

Monica is interested in applying neural population analysis techniques across multiple regions to investigate the neural mechanisms of learning and memory—ultimately working towards a better understanding of neuropsychiatric disorders.
