Bio:

Driven by a desire to understand how objective physical substrates in the brain are translated to subjective experiences, Adrien Stanley received his bachelor's in biology from State University of New York at Old Westbury. Afterward, Adrien became a research technician in the lab of Dr. Christoph Buettner whose research focused on the role of the hypothalamus in regulating blood glucose via its descending influence over the liver and adipose tissue. Using much of the technical experience gained here, he pursued his PhD in Biological Sciences at Columbia University in the lab of Dr. David Sulzer. Adrien’s thesis work focused on associative learning, more specifically on the role of the tail of the striatum in associating external cues with safety. As a new Scientist I at the Allen institute for neural dynamics, he will be exploring how associative learning processes extend to the peripheral organs such as the spleen and pancreas to regulate immunity or insulin release. This work combines scientific concepts he learned as a technician and in his thesis work with the ultimate goal of expanding our understanding of how the brain exerts control over the body. In addition to his fascination with neuroscience, Adrien also loves snakes and currently has 3 he is looking forward to raising.
