Mark Gillespie, Ph.D.

Assistant Investigator

Bio:

Mark is an Assistant Investigator and leads the Autoimmunity Program at the Allen Institute for Immunology. Mark joined the Allen Institute from the Institute for Systems Biology, where he was a Research Scientist who developed and applied proteomic technologies to study gene regulatory mechanisms during inflammation and erythropoiesis.

Mark completed his post-doctoral fellowship in the labs of Drs. Jeff Ranish and Alan Aderem at ISB. Here, he was a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) fellow studying the intersection of lipid and inflammatory signaling in macrophages. Mark received his Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Medicine from the University of Ottawa, where he studied cell signaling and gene regulation during skeletal muscle regeneration under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Rudnicki. Mark received his B.Sc. in Molecular Biology from McMaster University.

Research Focus:

Mark’s underlying research focus is understanding the principles that regulate immune tolerance and the mechanisms that underly the development of autoimmunity, for the purpose of disrupting the transitions from health to disease.
