Jewel is part of the Scientific Operations team as a Laboratory Aide at the Seattle Hub for Synthetic Biology. She is a recent Biology graduate from Seattle Pacific University, where she participated in various published research projects. Under Dr. Delgado, Jewel assisted in discovering whether certain clinically relevant drugs had anti-viral affects against MHV-68. In another study, she used DNA barcoding techniques to help investigate salmon mislabeling in Seattle’s marketplace. Upon graduating, she stepped into the field of Cytogenetics, where she learned how to karyotype human chromosomes and characterize genetic disorders.
