Eric Thorland is a Research Associate in the Tissue Processing Team, preparing fresh and frozen brain tissue for transcriptomic, histological, and electrophysiological analysis. He received a B.S. In Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Washington studying biomarkers of neurodegenerative disease in the Stewart and Shi Lab. His research with Dr. Katherine Conant investigating the impact of antidepressants on learning and memory earned Eric a Master’s in Neuroscience from Georgetown University. Previously, Eric worked at the Altius Institute for Biomedical Sciences, performing next-generation sequencing to provide GISAID with genomic data on SARS-CoV-2 variants. At the Seattle-based biotech Cajal Therapeutics he collected ground truth data and trained image segmentation algorithms identifying cellular, anatomical, and pathological structures in light-sheet images of mouse brain tissue.
