Alex is a Hmong-American Scientist at the Allen Institute, where he studies cellular behavior using interdisciplinary and data-driven approaches. Prior to joining the Institute, Alex was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Anseth Research Group at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he applied machine learning approaches to explore cellular heterogeneity, investigated sex-specific interactions in the aortic valve, and developed hydrogel-based models to study mechanisms underlying aortic valve stenosis. Alex earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, where his dissertation focused on experimental cell mechanics and computational modeling of heart valve cell behaviors in health and disease. Alex received a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Arkansas, where his undergraduate research focused on engineering nanofibrous scaffolds for heart valve tissue engineering.
