Kathryn Gudsnuk

Senior Scientific Project Manager

Bio:

Kathryn Gudsnuk joined the Allen Institute in 2021 and serves as a Senior Scientific Project Manager supporting gene therapy and translational cell type targeting initiatives. Her work focuses on the development of enhancer-driven adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors for precise, cell type-specific gene delivery to the central nervous system. These tools are used to build preclinical platforms for neurological disorders such as Dravet syndrome and Parkinson’s disease, leveraging genetic tools developed through the Institute’s broader research programs. Additionally, Kathryn works with biotechnology partners to advance gene therapy strategies for a range of genetic diseases.

Prior to joining the Allen Institute, Kathryn worked at the University of Washington studying the genetic underpinnings of neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and Alzheimer’s disease, with a particular focus on tandem repeat expansions, RNA regulatory mechanisms, and viral gene therapy development. She previously spent seven years in the laboratory of Frances Champagne at Columbia University, investigating the epigenetic effects of early life experiences on behavior and development, including transgenerational outcomes.

Kathryn earned her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Connecticut and her master’s degree from the University of Hartford.
