Benefits at-a-glance

We believe that a healthy, balanced life helps Allen Institute staff do great work. We’re committed to providing a benefits package that is competitive, and robust, including many perks for employees and their families to enjoy.

What we offer

We offer comprehensive healthcare plans that include medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible employees and dependents. Employees choose the plan that’s right for their families. Additionally we provide a free employee assistance program and tax-advantage saving accounts.

Employees receive paid vacation, personal days, sick time and paid holidays. The Allen Institute is also closed for an additional “paid winter break” (typically the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day).

At the Allen Institute, we want our employees and their families to lead healthy, active lives. We reimburse 75% (up to $140/month) of health club and gym memberships for individual, dual and family dues.

Employees may be eligible for 12-18 weeks of paid disability and/or baby bonding time for the birth or adoption of a child under WA PFML and/or our short-term disability program. After one year, full-time employees are also eligible to receive supplemental paid leave up to 100% of their pay when adding a new child to their family.*

*Employees must be approved for short-term disability and/or WA PFML to access this benefit.

We are proud to offer a remarkable employer 401(k) program, matching $.50 on every dollar an eligible employee contributes up to the annual IRS dollar limit.

The Allen Institute is located in Seattle’s vibrant and growing South Lake Union neighborhood with easy access to bus and streetcar routes, major arterials and highways. We offer a subsidy and special benefits for your preferred transportation option:

  • Bike Commute. Located at the terminus of the Westlake Cycle Track, it’s no surprise that the Allen Institute is the #1 Bike to Work Company in Seattle! More than 21% of all commute trips made by employees are by bicycle. We provide two secure bike cages, showers and lockers. The Allen Institute bike committee plans outings, social events and more.
  • ORCA regional transit card. Employees contribute just $16/month for unlimited transit rides and transfers on light rail, all major regional buses, water taxis and streetcars.
  • On-site parking garage. Employees pay a fraction of the market rate for a space. Carpooling is encouraged — employees who carpool can split the cost of parking.

Café 680 is a private, on-site bistro available just for Allen Institute employees. Located on the sixth floor, staff dine together, relax and enjoy sweeping views of Lake Union. A weekly rotating gourmet menu of fresh salads, soups, snacks, sandwiches, beverages and entrees yields endless selection. All food items at Café 680 are offered at subsidized prices.

Coffee (including espresso, cappuccinos, mochas, etc.) and tea is free for employees and is available all day.

We believe in continuous learning and professional development for our employees. Staff are encouraged to take advantage of internal training opportunities, tuition reimbursement and professional association memberships.

Allen Institute employees receive additional discounts at area retailers, eateries, ski resorts, yoga studios and ticket vendors (sports, concerts, theatre, movies and theme parks).
