Peter Groblewski, Ph.D.

Senior Manager, Neurosurgery and Behavior

Peter Groblewski joined the Allen Institute in 2013 as a member of the Neural Coding research group.  Currently, Peter leads the Neurosurgery & Behavior team, a division of In Vivo Sciences, where he manages large-scale pipeline projects and high-throughput behavior and surgical core facilities.  In addition to supporting various ongoing pipeline and research projects, the Neurosurgery & Behavior group is responsible for behavior and surgical development at the institute. 

Peter is applying his extensive experience with associative and operant models of learning and memory to the development of object discrimination and recognition tasks in mice.  These increasingly complex and demanding visually-guided behavior tasks serve as the foundation for the Allen Brain Observatory program—a component of Project Mindscope.

Prior to joining the Institute, Peter was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Washington where he studied neuroeconomics in rats and managed a rodent self-administration behavior facility. Peter received his Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Oregon Health & Science University where he conducted his thesis research on the prefrontal cortical circuits involved in cue-elicited approach behaviors in mice. Prior to earning his Ph.D., he earned a B.S. in Neuroscience from Bates College and conducted traumatic brain injury research for the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington.
