Ildefons Magrans de Abril

Scientist II

ildefons.magrans@alleninstitute.org

Ildefons is a member of the modeling, analysis, and theory group at the Allen Institute. The focus of his research is in the interface between computational neuroscience and machine learning. He applies machine learning approaches to model animal learning processes. He is also interested in transferring promising cognitive science insights to machine learning.

Prior to joining the Allen Institute in 2018, Ildefons was a senior researcher at a Japanese startup where he proposed a uniform technical strategy for curiosity and empowerment driven reinforcement learning. Previously, he held a staff scientist position in Professor Doya’s group at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology and a postdoc position at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel where he worked mainly on synaptic inference from neural recordings.

Ildefons received a M.S. in computer science, a M.S. in electronic engineering from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. He received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona for his work at the European Organization for Nuclear Research developing control systems for the last generation of high energy physics experiments.
