Research Associate I
Aliya joined the Allen Institute for Brain Science as a Research Associate I in January 2022. Her work includes producing acute tissue slices from mice and human brain tissue for the electrophysiology and transcriptomic teams, by micro-dissecting and sorting transcriptomic cells to isolate single cells or nuclei. Prior to joining the Institute, Aliya worked for 3 years at the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases observing mitochondrial dysfunction in drosophila, contributing to research by gene editing and conducting behavioral assays and analysis. During COVID, Aliya worked as an EMT in Pittsburgh and as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital. Aliya obtained her B.A. in Psychology with minors in Neuroscience and Spanish from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania and her M.S. in Biology at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
