Bio:
Dr. Karuna Patil is the Attending Veterinarian at the Allen Institute, where she oversees the clinical care and welfare of research animals and supports the wide range of neuroscience, behavioral, and other in vivo work performed. She is a diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and brings over a decade of experience in comparative medicine, translational research and running specialized scientific cores such as germ-free/gnotobiotic and containment facilities.
Dr. Patil earned her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania, completed a residency and MS in Comparative Medicine at the University of Washington, and holds an MBA in healthcare management from the University of Arizona. Her professional interests include animal welfare, refinement of research methodologies, and mentoring early-career veterinary scientists.
She has contributed to the field through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and collaborative research initiatives focused on rodent models, aquatic species, and biomedical program development.
