Bio:
Farzaneh Abolmaali is a member of the Imaging group at the Allen Institute for Brain Science. She applies laser physics, optical design, and system engineering to develop optical approaches that enable deep-tissue, three-photon microscopy of the living brain.
Before joining the Allen Institute, she worked on the R&D team at Novanta Inc., focusing on CO₂ laser development, including optical modeling, beam conditioning, and thermal analysis for next-generation laser platforms. Her doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte centered on super-resolution imaging, microspherical photonics, nanoplasmonic interactions, and mid-infrared detector design to enhance light–matter coupling.
Farzaneh holds a Ph.D. in Optical Science and Engineering and earned both her M.S. and B.S. in Physics from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic).
