David Wyrick, Ph.D.

Scientist I

Bio:

David Wyrick joined the Mindscope program in 2022 as a Scientist I. Prior to pursuing a career as a computational neuroscientist, David earned his B.S. in physics from Washington State University, with a focus on astronomy and astrophysics. He went on to work at Gemini observatory in Hawaii studying the evolution of star clusters containing a special type of supermassive star called Wolf-Rayet stars. He then worked in industry for a couple years developing algorithms and hardware for online tracking of satellites and space debris. Trading in the telescopes for microscopes, David earned his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Oregon under the mentorship of Luca Mazzucato. where he focused on analyzing large scale electrophysiological, two-photon, and behavioral datasets. These analysis and modeling efforts were in support of the overarching goal of trying to understand how the ongoing behavior of an organism relates to its underlying neural dynamics, and how neuromodulators like serotonin impact this relationship. In his current work, David is working on understanding the neurophysiological and behavioral effects of psychedelic drugs like psilocybin in mice.
