Debbie Shiozaki, M.P.H.
Sr. Director, Scientific Support Services
Debbie Shiozaki joined the Allen Institute in 2017 as the Director of Scientific Support Services and leads the administration team supporting the institute’s science units including equipment support services, environmental health and safety, regulatory compliance, vivarium husbandry and support services. Prior to joining the Allen Institute, she worked for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center for twenty years. Most recently Shiozaki held the positions of operations director for Shared Resources at Fred Hutch where she worked closely with the core directors on various projects including costing services, developing annual capital and operating budgets, planning space and equipment installations, coordinating projects for the therapeutics product program, supervising the billing and IT support functions, outsourcing the biohazard waste process, developing policies and procedures for the freezer program, developing the policy for use of controlled substances and legend drugs, and assisting with development of strategic initiatives. Earlier in her career, she held the position of Director of EH&S leading a team of 18 professionals providing comprehensive training, accident prevention, and regulatory compliance support for the safe use and disposal of radioactive materials, recombinant DNA, biosafety materials, hazardous chemicals, emergency response, healthcare vaccinations, and wellness. Shiozaki holds a B.A. in environmental health from Illinois State University and a M.P.H. in occupational health and safety management from Tulane University and recently completed the business administration certificate program at the University of Washington.
